Most NEET aspirants don't struggle because they can't study. They struggle because they don't know what to study first, or how much of it actually matters for the exam. Three subjects, two years of NCERT content, and no clear sense of priority — that combination is enough to make anyone feel stuck before they've even opened a book. A syllabus solves that problem, provided you actually treat it as a working document instead of something you read once in June and never look at again.
At the time of writing, NTA hasn't released the official NEET UG 2027 syllabus. Aspirants preparing right now are expected to follow the latest NMC/NTA-prescribed syllabus and keep track of any official notifications or revisions as they come out closer to the exam. That said, the core structure of the syllabus rarely changes much year to year, so there's no reason to wait around before starting your preparation around it.

NEET draws almost entirely from NCERT Class 11 and Class 12 — Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, in roughly that order of difficulty for most students, though Biology carries by far the largest share of marks.

Which Chapters Actually Carry the Weight
Here's something a lot of first-year droppers figure out too late: not every chapter is worth the same number of marks. NEET has leaned on certain chapters year after year, and previous paper trends make that pattern fairly visible.
In Biology, the heavier chapters are Human Physiology, Genetics & Evolution, Ecology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, and Plant Physiology. Between them, these account for something like 45–50% of the entire Biology section. Given that Biology alone is worth 360 of the 720 total marks, that's not a section anyone can afford to under-prepare.
Chemistry leans on Chemical Bonding, Organic Chemistry, Coordination Compounds, Electrochemistry, and Mole Concept, making up roughly 35–40% of that section. Organic Chemistry specifically rewards students who sit down and actually work through reaction mechanisms on paper rather than reading them and assuming they'll remember.
Physics tends to draw most heavily from Modern Physics, Current Electricity, Optics, Electrostatics, and Mechanics — about 40–45% of the section. This is also usually the subject where students lose marks not from lack of knowledge, but from a question phrased in a way that hides a familiar concept behind unfamiliar wording.
None of these numbers are guarantees. They come from analysing how previous years' papers have played out, and NEET can always shift things around slightly. But as a starting point for where to spend your limited hours, this is about as reliable as it gets.
Turning This Into an Actual Plan
Knowing the weightage doesn't help much if it just sits in your notes. A few things worth doing with this information:
- Tackle the high-weightage chapters first in each subject, before spreading time thin across everything at once.
- Still cover the lower-weightage chapters eventually — NEET pulls at least a question or two from almost every chapter, and those add up over a 720-mark paper.
- For Biology specifically, go back to the NCERT text itself. A large chunk of Biology questions are lifted almost directly from textbook lines, so paraphrased notes alone won't cut it.
- Test yourself on a topic right after finishing it instead of waiting weeks. Waiting means relearning half of it later anyway.

Having the syllabus mapped out is only half the job. The other half is actually working through it — revising, practicing, testing yourself — without losing track of what you've covered and what you haven't.
