How to Calculate Your NEET 2026 Score
Take a piece of paper. Go through each question one by one — don't rush this. Once you've counted your correct and wrong answers, use this formula:
Score = (Correct Answers × 4) – (Wrong Answers × 1)
Example
Say you attempted 170 questions — 150 correct, 20 wrong, and left 10 blank.

Expected Score |

580 / 720 |
This gives you 580. That's your rough estimate — not your official score, since the final calculation depends on NTA's final answer key after all objections are cleared.
Challenging the NEET 2026 Provisional Answer Key
Think an answer in the key is wrong? You can formally challenge it. NTA takes these objections seriously — if your challenge is valid and backed by proper proof, the key gets corrected and the final answer key reflects that change.
Steps to Raise an Objection
- Visit neet.nta.nic.in
- Click on the Answer Key Challenge link
- Log in with your Application Number and Password
- Pick the question you're challenging
- Select the option you believe is correct
- Upload your supporting proof — textbook reference, NCERT page, or any credible academic source
- Pay ₹200 per question as the challenge fee
- Submit and save the confirmation receipt
The ₹200 fee per question is non-refundable if your challenge doesn't hold up. So only raise an objection if you're genuinely confident and have the proof ready.
Challenging Your OMR Response Sheet
This is different from challenging the answer key. If NTA's recorded response doesn't match what you actually bubbled in, you can dispute the OMR recording itself.
- Go to the official NEET portal
- Click on the OMR Challenge link
- Log in and open your recorded response sheet
- Select the question where the response looks wrong
- Submit your claim and pay the fee
- Download the confirmation slip — keep it safe
Provisional vs Final NEET 2026 Answer Key
A lot of students confuse these two. Here's the difference:

The result you get on results day is based only on the final key. Don't panic if a provisional answer looks wrong — it might get corrected before the final one comes out.

Why Expert Answer Keys Matter (Before NTA Releases the Official One)
There's always a gap between the exam date and when NTA publishes the official key — sometimes a few weeks. In that time, coaching institutes like CLC Sikar release their own verified keys, usually within hours of the exam ending.
These aren't perfect substitutes, but they're genuinely useful for getting an early read on your score. Just don't make major decisions — like whether to take a drop year — based only on unofficial keys. Wait for the final NTA version.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
- Download the answer key only from neet.nta.nic.in — avoid random third-party links
- Always use your correct paper code when downloading
- Calculate your score carefully — one miscounted wrong answer shifts your total by 5 marks
- Don't challenge an answer just because you got it wrong — challenge only if you have solid academic proof
- Keep printed or saved copies of your OMR sheet, the answer key, and any challenge receipts
- The final answer key decides your result — stay patient till it's out
Important Links
Waiting for the results can be stress-inducing. Make the most of your time and calculate your true score, study earlier year cut-offs at colleges you're considering and think about counselling. If your score doesn't match what you had hoped for it's fine. NEET will give you another chance. Whatever number you choose does not determine the entire image.
