What is JoSAA 2026 Dual Reporting?
The Dual Reporting rule applies when a candidate must report multiple times because their seat allotment category changes across JoSAA rounds. This applies, for example, when:
-
A candidate selects "float" in Round 1 and is later allotted a seat in a different category in a subsequent round.
-
A candidate is allotted an IIT in one round and is later allotted an NIT+ in the subsequent round.
In these scenarios, the candidate is required to report to the JoSAA Reporting Centre for the new allotment.
Please note: If a candidate does not report to the reporting center for the new allotment, both the previously accepted seat and the newly allotted seat will be cancelled.

Important Points on Dual Reporting
-
Candidates who reported in any earlier round are required to report again to take the newly allocated seat.
-
For IIT and NIT+ systems, separate reporting is required in different rounds.
-
All documents will be re-verified for the new institute.
-
Candidates should follow the latest JoSAA Reporting Schedule 2026 to avoid cancellation of the allotted seat.
Seat Withdrawal Rules
-
Candidates can withdraw their allotted seat only before the last round of allotments.
-
Withdrawing a seat will make the candidate ineligible for all subsequent rounds of JoSAA 2026 counselling.
-
The seat acceptance fee will be refunded after a ₹1,000 processing fee is deducted.
-
Seat withdrawal will not be permitted after the last round of seat allotment.
